‘A Man’s Work Is Never Done: A Novel About Mentoring Our Sons’

If you could learn more about:

  • The 4 cornerstones of the mentoring process
  • The 10 most important messages and gifts that a son needs to receive from his father
  • The transition from boyhood to manhood and the challenges a young man faces on that journey
  • Why the lack of mentorship is the #1 social issue of our time
  • How do single moms raise teenage sons?

If the answer is ‘Yes’ then my book will be of great service to you whether you are a single mom, dad, a grandparent, a co-parent, counsellor or a social worker. Written as a novel, the book is categorized as creative non-fiction. It explores the problems young men face today regarding their relationships, their identity and the maturation process during the transition from boyhood to manhood. The challenges are made much more difficult with no father or strong, healthy male role model to guide them. Consequently many young men become truly lost and often hopeless.

The story features ‘Jacob’, a troubled teenage boy, who, reluctantly, establishes an eventual relationship with an older neighbour, who himself is examining his life’s legacy as he faces an inevitable demise. The older neighbour finds himself mentoring Jacob as the young man tries to understand where he belongs in today’s confusing and fast changing world. Their conversations and the situations they face together along with the understanding of Jacob’s single mother, work to discover many of the lessons our society needs to know more about when raising a fatherless teenage male. Raising a fatherless young man has fast become today’s number one social issue. As healthy fathers or male role models we can lead the way for our young men to truly be the men they were supposed to be. Most importantly these lessons will be passed on to the next generation of males and so on.

It really is true that a “A Man’s Work Is Never Done . . .” the messages simply continue to be delivered from generation to generation.

“I found this book clearly laid out issues that, not only young men but adult men as well, struggle with regularly. The author deals with them in a step by step approach within the context of a story that more than held my interest. You could read this book a chapter at a time or as a continuous read—either way is impactful. This is a must read for single parents, co-parents, young men who question their place in todays society, teachers, professionals and anyone else who is interested in not only understanding what is happening in the world for men currently but for those truly wanting  to learn how to support and assist them in this time of uncertainty. It will benefit all. The timing of this book is perfect.”
