These ponies look to be free running and carefree. Can you imagine being free of any encumbrances-free to run, to play and think what you like. How would school have been different for you IF you were able to choose what you wanted to study in school instead of being told what you would study. You may want to consider attending school in Finland if you fancy that option.

Finland has recently declared they will be the first country in the world to remove the mainstay and obligatory subjects from their curriculum:

The Head of The Department of Education for Finland, Marjo Kyllonen recently stated the following:  “There are schools that are teaching in the old-fashioned way which was of benefit in the beginning of the 1900s — but the needs are not the same, and we need something fit for the 21st century.“

Instead of individual subjects, Finnish students will soon begin to study events and phenomena in an interdisciplinary format. For example, the Second World War will be examined from the perspective of history, geography, and math. And by taking the course ”Working in a Cafe,” students will absorb a whole body of knowledge about the English language, economics, and communication skills. For more information on this truly ground breaking announcement click on the  underlined text above.

This is where the world is going and we need to get ahead of the thinking here instead of trying to catch up. I’ll have more about that in the coming weeks.

A Forward Thinking Program:

Interesting that the above article should come up right now. A colleague and I have been working to develop a whole new paradigm about that very subject only our program is more encompassing. However, the idea is similar. Great minds think alike I guess. 🙂 Our program is called ‘A Forward Thinking Program’ which suggests something new instead of something built on old thinking. We are just about ready to begin talking about this to others in the public: learners, parents, business representatives, Ministry people, teachers and a few other stakeholders. The change in philosophy and initiative is coming and we need to get on board with it if we want our children to have every advantage when it comes to being ready to work in the global marketplace.

There is so much more to know and to learn about so please stay tuned to this newsletter for further information. Questions?–send them to me at: jim.lifechoice@gmail.com

Blog Radio Interview:

Received an invitation to do a blog radio interview with a friend and colleague in Vancouver. We taped the one hour interview this past Monday and it will air this Saturday-February 11 at  3:00PM our time. Dr. Evers also asked I would be interested in doing another show that would  air on Saturday March 11 at 3:00PM our time. I have included the information needed to tune in so if you have an interest I will be discussing more about the educational program that I mentioned above–‘A Forward Thinking Program.’ There are small groups of professionals with growing interest in doing something similar in British Columbia. They call them ‘flip’ classes out there.

What Happened This Week? . . .

Video Pick For The Week:       “LEST WE FORGET”

Truly a week to remember. When I thought about re-capping what went on for me this week I recognized it really pales in comparison to the need  for us all to remember November the 11th. I can’t imagine the emotions of those who ‘hit the beaches’ or those who lived in muck up to their knees for days and weeks on end. For those who charged machine gun nests knowing full well they were not likely going to survive the experience. All for our freedom and for us to,hopefully, live our lives free from tyranny, fear and hopelessness. So for all those who were unable to spend two minutes yesterday remembering those sacrifices please give this a listen and say ‘thanks’.

The Podcast Series With Dr. Anne Marie Evers:

Finished up a 6 part series with Dr. Anne Marie Evers after discussing the challenges many parents face, especially single moms and dads, when trying to help guide their young men through the transition from boyhood to manhood. We explored several solutions that I outlined in my book which is titled titled “A Man’s Work Is Never Done . . . A Novel About Mentoring Our Sons.” The link for the last podcast should be in place on my web site-(media page)-this week sometime. Thank you to her for granting me the opportunity to share this very important message and information with her listeners.

Dr. Evers has written several books on the power of affirmations and has also produced some books for daily use. She has travelled all over the US and Canada delivering her message to thousands of grateful people who have shared the power she speaks of. Check out her web site and her new book called:

Affirmation Life Tools: 70 Ways to Cope with Chemo and Other Medical Treatments

Foreword by Dr. Bernie Siegel

The APSGO Conference:

Had a great day at the APSGO.ca Conference in New Market, Ontario where I had been invited to present one of the workshops. Apsgo stands for The Association of Parent Support Groups in Ontario, Inc. The day was well attended by parents who were enthusiastic and grateful for the opportunity to be present with so many other parents who are searching for new strategies and approaches to raising their kids. What a great group of people who have dedicated themselves to helping to support those parents who are in need of information and guidance while they face the challenges of bringing up teenage children. I’m surprised that there isn’t an APSGO group in Niagara where I live. Parents in the Niagara Region are truly missing out on a great resource.

Podcast With Dr. Stephanie Stanfield:

I’ll be participating in a podcast with Dr. Stephanie Stanfield during which we will discuss my book: “A Man’s Work Is Never Done . . . A Novel About Mentoring Our Sons” and some ideas or ways of being more successful as parents while helping sons to transition from boyhood to manhood. We’ll touch briefly on the four cornerstones that comprise the basics of healthy and satisfying parenting experiences. Dr. Stanfield will expand on some of the programs she has recently created called the ‘Calm Moms Program’ and how they can be useful in providing much needed relief to busy moms as they try to balance work and raising their families. Go to her web site at “Making Shifts Happen: Living A Purposeful Life” for more about the other exciting programs that she has to offer. You can also access her programs by clicking on the green button to the right of this article.

All the best and please share this newsletter with friends who may be interested in improving their living experiences–all the best, Jim

This Weeks News . . .

November 5–75 Degrees–Who would believe it. None the less enjoyed a great ride with friends. Back to work.

“There are so many great things going on around us and we don’t or can’t take the time to see them-to understand them and the impact that they could have on the quality of life we enjoy. I have learned that each happening no matter how big or small leaves an imprint of some kind and the world around us changes.”–JC

The APSGO  Conference:

Very excited about this weekend. I have been granted an opportunity to share my message with many parents and directors of programs designed to help and support parents and kids navigate the challenges they face with the hope of creating a better place for them to co-exist. If we can make a small change happen we can alter the course of many lives. It’s a privilege to be a part of that no matter the size of the contribution. It happens on November 7, 2015 at 10:00am to be held at the CUPE Center in New Market, ON–165 Pony Dr. Everyone is welcome to come and participate in what promises to be a great event.

The Week That Was . . .

An interesting week as they most always are:

Some folks will tell you they are busier now that they have retired than they had been at any other time in their lives. Honestly I was a bit scepticle of that statement but I have found that it is mostly true.

Did the third of a series of four podcasts:

I connected once again with Dr.Anne Marie Evers to talk about the third in a series of four podcasts regardng my book “A Man’s Work Is Never Done: A Novel About Mentoring Our Sons.’ We have been discussing each of the 4 ‘cornerstones’ needed to create a healthy and fulfilling life. During previous discussions we talked about developing a positive sense of self-value/self-esteem; anger and how it can be seen and used as a positive motivating force in our lives and living in relationships with others as well as ourselves. Next week we will talk about the fourth and final cornerstone dealing with parenting and the importance of co-parenting our children.

The broadcasts can be heard on contacttalkradio.com. Just type it in on your browser and go to the Dr. Anne Marie Evers show. It will be on the air on Saturday October 17th between 3-4pm EST or if you miss that one the link will be on my web site by Wednesday, October 21st. Just go to jimcloughley.com then go to the media page and click on the link.

Still a few spots open for speaks:

I still have a few opportunities available to speak to groups, meetings or to do ‘lunch and learns’ for businesses. If you are looking for a speaker contact me at jimcloughley.com and go to my contact page or send me an email at jim.lifechoice@gmail.com and I will be pleased to return your call.

Write your book in 90 days:

We did a writers workshop back in August but we are still offering that program on line including one to one support. If you have a book you want to write and self publish please to contact me at the above email address or go to my web page for more information. We can save you a great deal of time and resources ($) and provide you with more information than you thought possible for a very reasonable fee. Don’t let the concern about how to publish your work or how to market your work keep you from getting back to us. You will be surprised how simple it is to get your book out there if you are willing to do the work. You bring your skill and talent and we’ll help you with the rest.

APSGO.ca Conference–coming up soon:

I have been asked to present a workshop based on my book at The APSGO conference which is scheduled for November 7th in Newmarket. APSGO is the Association of Parenting Support Groups in Ontario Inc. They provide great services to parents who are challenged with parenting their children. They offer strategies, support, skill development and much more to those parents who desire a more fulfilling and less stressful family life with their children. Go to APSGO.ca for more information regarding what they do and how they do it. Everyone is welcomed to attend–it should be a promising day for all.

Video pick for the week:

It seems to me that humanity could take a lesson from our 4 legged friend. How different would our lives be if we simply loved more and judged less. Amazing.

All the best, Jim

The Week Gone By . . .

Speaks for local groups and organizations

I’m now booking speaking engagements for the fall season. A important podcast with expert/author  Dr. Anne Marie Evers

Next week we will be discussing the second of four cornerstones from my book called “A Man’s Work Is Never Done : A Novel About Mentoring Our Sons.” This is a book that benefits both single moms and single dads as well as co-parents. We will discuss anger and how we can use anger for our benefit–as a motivator for change for both ourselves and our children. If you are interested in learning more about how to deal positively with anger tune into the Dr. Anne Marie Evers Show on contacttalkradio.com on Saturday October 10th from 3-4PM-EST.

The Week That Was . . .

Need to clarify a point or two about my book and the title

When I began to write ‘A Man’s Work Is Never Done . . . I had two immediate thoughts: What was the message I was trying to send out and who was I sending it to?
What the title is supposed to suggest is that, as healthy, mature males in the world, it is our responsibility to help younger males grow into strong, mature. responsible males and to never lose sight of the gifts that we bring into the world. Mature men need to assist young men through the transition from boyhood to manhood so that those same young men can grow to be confident in themselves, that they have a place in the world and to be clear about what we, as men, do and how we go about our business. It is the responsibility of each of us, as men, then, to be sure that those who follow are prepared to do the same for their sons. THIS IS/WAS NEVER TO SUGGEST THAT MEN ARE BETTER PARENTS TO THEIR SONS THAN MOMS. I DO BELIEVE THERE ARE CERTAIN PARTS IN/OF A YOUNG MAN’S LIFE THAT ONLY DADS CAN BE HELPFUL WITH.

But the part that seems to to have been missed, unstated or ignored is that the book offers an explanation and an honest view of the importance of the females in our lives and how single moms-especially-need to understand/know that there are some messages that they cannot deliver to their son(s)–there are messages that only a man can deliver to another male. Moms need not feel or think that they are not good parents because they are not able to provide the parental guidance that ‘junior’ needs in order for him to understand his manhood. ‘Junior’ needs to get those messages from a strong male role model. This book can be as beneficial to single moms as it is to single dads.

Any questions about this please contact me at: jim.lifechoice@gmail.com
